About Ruth and the Floating Studio
Born in Scotland, I partially grew up in Greenock and then was fortunate to study Architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow. The majority of my architectural career was spent in Dubai where I had the opportunity to work for some Royal clients. Interior design and art beckoned and I morphed my career, taking in yoga and complementary therapies along the way. The part of me that is still to grow up still loves to play, sing, act and bake when there is probably something else more pressing I should be doing!
The Floating Studio is about two things; our very lovely Sailing Yacht, Fox Hat, and the concept of taking my art practice with me around the world. Wherever I go I will have a sketchbook, or a temporary studio or a collaboration with other artists – in Dubai, Italy, France, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, New York…. and soon in Washington DC.
I paint from my winter studio in Dorset, U.K. and my floating studio in the Mediterranean. My favourite media include acrylics, watercolour, soft pastels, markers and anything that gives me lovely vivid colours. I tailor my practice to attune with my environment – according to my available space and materials and if it’s all right to be a bit messy!
I love to paint in unusual places – here I was on a rooftop in Montenegro
There are lots of ways I can help you bring more art into your life… I offer a variety of Workshops; Art Therapy for one-to-one or group sessions; Art and Yoga; Live Painting; and of course I am available for Commissions.
